Job Summary
The Communication Specialist will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing effective communication strategies to enhance the organization’s visibility, stakeholder engagement, and brand positioning. The role involves managing internal and external communications, content creation, media relations, and ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms.
- Strategic Communication:
- Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies aligned with organizational and project objectives.
- Ensure consistent branding, messaging, and tone across all communication materials.
- Support senior management in positioning the organization and its initiatives effectively.
- Content Development:
- Create high-quality content including press releases, newsletters, reports, case studies, success stories, and presentations.
- Draft, edit, and proofread communication materials for accuracy, clarity, and impact.
- Develop donor-facing and stakeholder communication materials as required.
- Media & Public Relations:
- Manage relationships with media outlets and journalists.
- Coordinate press briefings, media coverage, and public announcements.
- Monitor media coverage and prepare media reports and analysis.
- Digital & Social Media Management:
- Manage and update the organization’s website and social media platforms.
- Plan and execute digital campaigns to increase reach and engagement.
- Maintaining record/library of videography and photography of events and activities conducted at NIC Karachi
- Track analytics and prepare performance reports for digital communication activities.
- Webmaster and Online Data Integration:
- Manage and maintain the center’s website, ensuring optimal functionality, security, and user experience.
- Implement tools and APIs to capture and integrate online data from various sources into the central data repository.
- Analyze website traffic and user behavior to optimize content and improve online engagement.
- Managing and maintaining data on the Ignite startup portal with reference to NIC Karachi.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Support communication with donors, partners, government entities, and beneficiaries.
- Assist in organizing events, workshops, and conferences, including communication and visibility support.
- Promote organizational achievements and program impact to key stakeholders.
- Internal Communication:
- Support internal communication initiatives to ensure staff are informed and engaged.
- Develop internal newsletters, announcements, and staff communication materials.
- Monitoring & Reporting:
- Monitor communication activities against KPIs.
- Prepare periodic reports highlighting communication outcomes and impact.
- Ensure compliance with donor visibility and branding guidelines (where applicable).
- Management-directed responsibilities:
- Perform any additional duties assigned by senior management to support organizational priorities and evolving business needs. Ensure timely execution with professionalism and accountability.
- Cross-departmental support / shadowing:
- Collaborate with and shadow own and other departments as required to ensure operational continuity and knowledge sharing.
- Provide support on interdepartmental tasks when needed by the management.
Required Qualification and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills in English
- Experience working with media, digital platforms, and content management systems.
- Proficiency in MS Office and digital communication tools; familiarity with design tools is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of website management, including functionality, security, and user experience.
Technical Skills
- Content writing, editing, and proofreading (reports, press releases, case studies, newsletters)
- Media relations and press management
- Digital and social media management (Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube)
- Website content management (CMS such as WordPress or similar platforms)
- Digital campaign planning and performance tracking
- Basic graphic design and visual content coordination (Canva, Adobe InDesign/Illustrator – basic level)
- Photography and video content coordination (storyboarding, captions, basic editing)
- Event communication and publicity support
- Data visualization and presentation development (PowerPoint, Infographics)
- Use of analytics tools (Google Analytics, social media insights)
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Skilled in utilizing no-code development tools.
- Proficient in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and PHP for both frontend and backend development and management.
- Experienced with automation tools such as Zapier and Make.com to streamline and automate processes.
- Experience in video development and editing will be considered an added advantage.
