Position Overview

The Manager Accounts & Finance is responsible for overseeing financial planning, accounting operations, budgeting, compliance, audits, procurement verification, and financial reporting to ensure strong financial governance across projects and the organization. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to support strategic decision-making by maintaining effective financial controls, managing cash flows, and ensuring regulatory compliance. By collaborating with senior management, project teams, and external stakeholders—and leading the finance function—the Manager Accounts & Finance contributes to operational efficiency, financial transparency, and sustainable financial performance.

 

Key Responsibilities

Manage budgeting, forecasting, expenditure tracking, and variance analysis:

  • Develop annual and project-based budgets aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Monitor actual expenditures against approved budgets and forecasts on a regular basis.
  • Analyze budget variances and provide actionable insights and recommendations to management.

Oversee accounting operations, payroll, vendor payments, and reconciliations:

  • Supervise day-to-day accounting activities to ensure accurate and timely financial records.
  • Ensure timely processing of payroll, statutory deductions, and vendor payments.
  • Review bank, ledger, and account reconciliations to maintain financial accuracy and integrity.

Ensure procurement documentation compliance for audits:

  • Verify procurement documentation to ensure compliance with organizational policies and donor/regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with procurement and project teams to address documentation gaps or discrepancies.
  • Maintain organized and traceable procurement records to support internal and external audits.

Prepare financial reports for PD and P&D:

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, budget utilization reports, and forecasts.
  • Present financial insights and analysis to the Project Director (PD) and Planning & Development (P&D) teams.
  • Support management decision-making through clear financial reporting and performance indicators.

Maintain audit-ready financial records:

  • Ensure all financial records are complete, accurate, and properly documented at all times.
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors during audit planning and execution.
  • Address audit observations and implement corrective actions to strengthen financial controls.

Audit & Internal Controls:

  • Collaborate with external and internal auditors to ensure timely and successful completion of audits.
  • Ensuring tight controls on financial operations and procurement.

Policy Adherence:

  • Ensure financial operations align with the organization’s policy manuals and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist in revising policies to reflect changes in business and regulatory environments.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Coordinate with project teams, management, and external stakeholders for seamless financial reporting and compliance.
  • Serve as a point of contact for financial inquiries and clarifications from internal teams.

Operational Excellence:

  • Drive process improvement initiatives in financial operations, procurement, and reporting.
  • Implement systems to automate routine financial tasks for enhanced efficiency.

Management-directed responsibilities:

  • Perform any additional duties assigned by senior management to support organizational priorities and evolving business needs. Ensure timely execution with professionalism and accountability.

Cross-departmental support / shadowing:

  • Collaborate with and shadow own and other departments as required to ensure operational continuity and knowledge sharing. 
  • Provide support on interdepartmental tasks when needed by the management.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior finance team members. 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Professional certifications will be an advantage; CA Qualified (ACA), ACCA, ICMA, or CFA candidates are preferred

 

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP).
  • Proficiency in financial management systems and ERP software.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under strict deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with various stakeholders.

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 5–6 years of relevant experience in financial reporting, accounting and audit roles.
