LMKT sponsored the 16th National Engineering Robotics Competition (NERC), Pakistan’s largest robotics event. The four-day competition, which ended July 7, is a joint project of National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), STEM Careers Programme and Pakistan Science Foundation. The yearly contest aims to promote research in robotics and its related fields in Pakistan.
This year at NERC the contestants were asked to create autonomous robots that can localize themselves in unknown environments, determine the location of colored boxes to pot balls, and plan their motion accordingly with the help of maps. The competition serves as a platform for students to increase their understanding of scientific and engineering principles used in the design process and showcase their talent in the field of robotics.
LMKT and NUST enjoy a long-running partnership on many technology R&D initiatives including ongoing discussions on collaborations in the area of robotics.
“The applications and importance of robotics in agriculture, security management disaster management and hazardous environments, cannot be stressed enough”, said CEO LMKT Atif Rais Khan. He added, “Competitions such as NERC ’18 serve to showcase most recent advancements and exceptional talent from across the Country in this domain.”
NERC serves as a common environment for the integration and evaluation of various mechanical and electronics designs, control and path planning algorithms and agent architectures. Engineering students participants from all over Pakistan compete under at least one of four categories: Modular, Indigenous, Robowars and AERO.
